Back with cake pics

Well I am back from a glorious week in the French countryside where we celebrated our first anniversary. We spent a lot of time reading with glasses of red wine in hand - blissful!

But before I left I promised a photo of the cake I made for a friend's 30th last weekend so here it is:

I designed it to look like a Birkin Bag and a pair of Manolos. I was a bit nervous that it wouldn't end up anything like the image I had in my head as I haven't really done that much in the way of 3D cakes before but I was really pleased with how it turned out. Hope you like it!

  3. Thanks ladies! Cakes are only a hobby at the moment but I harbour a hope that one day the hobby may bloom into a business. I just make the odd wedding or birthday cake for friends and friends of friends at the moment but it would be lovely to think that one day I might be able to stay at home and just bake!!

  8. Fantastic creation, really. Am very impressed! How did you ever get that to stand? And is it edible or does it just look amazing ;-). Anyway, with that kind of standard you should really be a professional art(isan) baker!

  9. Thank you Sonja! It is all edible although strictly speaking you probably wouldn't get that much enjoyment from eating the shoes as they are made from petal paste which sets very hard! The bag on the other hand was six tiers of vanilla sponge soaked in vanilla bean syrup layered with butter cream and was most definitely very edible - I know because I had a rather large slice myself :) The cakes were doweled to keep them standing.
